The best part of the weekend:
We have an awesome screened in porch that is perfect for reading, knitting, or even conversation/spying on the weirdos next door. Since moving in I've wanted cute wicker furniture for this space and this weekend, WE GOT IT! It's perfect, absolutely perfect. It's from Pier 1 Imports and it was on clearance. Score! Of course now I'll need to make some throw pillows as you can see:
The worst part of the weekend:
We have an infestation of little beetle-like bugs in our kitchen. I threw out so much food last night it was ridiculous. The only things we have left are those that are sealed. We had 4 unopened boxes of pasta that had to be tossed, 2 boxes of rice, what a waste! So now I'm afraid to buy anything until I know they're gone and right now our cupboards are bare :( Oh and did I mention this was at like 9pm last night!

Let's Get This Weekend Started!
So excited for the weekend! Nope, we aren't doing anything special. I just won't have to be at work!
This week wasn't too bad. There were 2 major accomplishments in the wedding plans!! FH finally applied for his passport which I'm really excited about. Maybe we can go to Canada in August :) And I ordered our invitations yesterday! I did it almost entirely online. I really didn't want to have to go to the store to order although it is local so instead I worked out the details over the phone. Unless you know what you want or you really don't care, I recommend going in and picking the invitations out. The font colors look entirely different on the preview screen than they look on the sample invitation, which is why I had to call. I should get them in 2 weeks or so which is awesome. Our wedding is fall-themed so the invitations have pretty leaves on them with goldish writing. Now if only I could find a wedding ring!
Weekend plans include Phillies game Saturday night (Go Phils!) cleaning the house, maybe a BBQ with family/friends, and crafting :) I also have this second job I haven't been to in awhile, like 6 months, that I should go to. It's OK, my mom's my boss!
I've been on break from school for the past week and haven't had motivation to do anything other than lounge around the house and water the plants occassionally. (BTW- I got 2 A+'s....that's just crazyiness! Oh and I start another class next week.). I think to help get back on track and be more active I'm going to make a list of 50-100 goals, set a completion date, and of course blog about it. I borrowed this idea from Anna (who's blog I read because she's so crafty) who is working towards 101 in 1001 days. I can't wait to get started although coming up with a list of 50-100 things will be difficult. More to follow...

Wild Weekend
Long story short the laptop is fixed. Woo-hoo! I reinstalled the operating system, millions of drivers, and am missing all of my software but no big deal. I lost all of my documents, but only because there wasn't much to lose and I didn't feel like burning anything to disk.
Saturday was my company picnic / spring fling. It was hot as heck so the alcohol I consumed was sweat out before I could make a fool of myself. Turnout was low this year since it was Father's Day weekend but I still had a great time. FH was more comfortable this year since he's been working here for the past ten months and been playing softball with the guys. Saturday was a busy day! After the picnic we continued the search for the ring and then went to play Rockband at my brother's new place.

Introductions: Meet Paigey
Yesterday was an exciting mess! After work I had to drop off FH, run to the grocery store for baked goods supplies, bake the brownies, get changed, grab the dog, water/supplies, cut the fresh out of the oven brownies and get to the game. Our softball team is not very good (and that's me being nice) but we won! It's the second win of the season with only a few games left. It was awesome to see! FH got a triple his first at bat with a sexy slide to reach 3rd!
I brought our first born Paigey (see above). I got Paige from an animal shelter 3 years ago as soon as I moved out of my parents house. She's about 5 now. I wanted a companion since I was living alone and she was perfect, with a little Petsmart obedience school of course! Paige loves other dogs so she has a hard time accepting when other dogs don't like her. Paige got into a fight at the game last night and didn't even know it. She's giving kisses (her FAV thing to do) and he's growling and snapping at her. So the rest of the game was spent keeping the 2 dogs separate so my baby didn't get hurt.
~~~
On a side note, my laptop has an extreme virus and is completely unusable right now :( I had a few too many beverages at the game last night and during my intoxicated-ness clicked on a link in a comment posted on AOL. My virus protection/spyware was out of date hence virus. I'll have to fix it after work now that I'm sober!
Bitter Twilight
I'm down to the wire on my paper and I made the mistake of starting a new book yesterday during lunch. Silly me!
I just finished reading "Bitter is the new Black" by Jen Lancaster. It was such a hard book to get through but for my sanity I had to see if the damn girl got out of her huge financial hole. And I thought my spending habits were bad! The format of the book was horrible. There were footnotes on every page. Who writes with footnotes? It's not like its a research paper or anything. The plot was horrible and outside of the plot nothing much else happened. Jen lost her job as a vp after 9/11 and it deals with her trying to get a job, keep her apartment, and not go insane. It was rather depressing when I'm sure it was supposed to be funny. Who gets married just to get money to try to get out of debt? You can't tell me she couldn't get a job at a retail store making $7-$8/ an hour. I wish someone would have just told me the ending so I could have done more important things with my time.
Which brings me back to the paper....I finished the book so I'd have no other distractions/reasons to procrastinate. I made my goal of 3 additional pages completed by Monday night:) and I was doing great until someone at work gave me another book to read. I started it yesterday and got completely caught up in the story. It is called Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I couldn't put it down. I brought it home from work (mistake #2) and for a few hours after work. At 7 I yelled at myself and got back to work on the paper. I managed to get 3 pages done last night for a total 9 pages. Only 1 or so pages to go but it could be more if I don't feel like I've fully covered the topic.
So after feeling a sense of accomplishment on my paper I got back to reading and finished the book around midnight! If you like vampire-ish stories Twilight was really good. I found it to be suspenseful and an easy read. It had me hooked from the first couple of pages! There are 2 other books in the series that I can't wait to get my hands on plus one coming out in August. The series is for young adults though, with a little Harry Potter feel to them. Meyer's first adult novel, The Host, was released last month. It sounds a little too science fiction for my liking but I'll probably pick it up. I think I'll wait until this weekend to get them though as the goal for tonight is to finish my paper :)
Check out Meyer's website since I know I didn't do the series justice: http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilightseries.html
Procrastinating Part II
The weekend started off excellent. I have a take home final and 10 page paper due on Thursday so I started Friday night off by completing the final. I'm off to a good start, right? Nope! After Friday I did nothing....absolutely nothing. The heat was my excuse for procrastination this time. It was 96 out and we don't have AC, except in the bedroom. I cleaned all morning Saturday, relaxed all afternoon - in the ungodly heat, and went out drinking Saturday night when my butt should have been home working on that paper. Sunday FH's parents came for a visit to look at sites for our rehearsal dinner. Now I could have stayed home but I wanted to see where our rehearsal dinner might be. That's a big decision! I managed to get a total of 3 pages out of 10 typed by 10pm last night. So now it's Monday and unfortunately I have a full time job so the rest of my paper will have to be done at night. My goal tonight is to get another 3 pages done so I can stop freaking out.
We have RING!
Yes, ring singular. FH got his wedding ring today while my search continues. I'm being very picky probably because FH got me such a fancy e-ring :) He's the best! FH's ring is titanium (very non-traditional). With the price of gold and the fact that he'll probably lose it since he's never worn jewelry before, titanium was a better choice. I told him I'd get him gold but he really likes his ring. It's very manly.
On a different note:
My job description is officially changing FINALLY! I've been transitioning out of my group for about a year and today I was informed I am no longer in the chemistry group but am now in some other (better) group. I will be celebrating tonight.
I was awesome at my old job. Now I'm worried because I'm pretty much starting over again and maybe I won't be so awesome at this. I used to have my own work and I was always busy but with starting in a different group I don't have my own work yet. I hate not having work to do....it makes me want to blog :)
Long Lost Hobbies
Finally getting back into the swing of things. What am I talking about......crafting of course! I've never really had a good place to sew until now. My sewing machine was always in my bedroom when I lived with my parents or in my tiny dorm room at college.
Well last night I set up my "girl" room (aka unused bedroom in our house) and I'm really excited! It's my space to sew, knit, do work, scrapbook and play wii. I'm looking forward to getting back to all of the sewing projects I've started over the past 10 years as well as some new ones. As a side note, FH does have his "man" room, in our finished attic. It was originally my space in the house but I let him have it since it's been really really hot up there. But anyway, I have a basket full of half finished projects which peeking at last night, I know includes some clothes in need of mending, two quilts, a cute summer shirt, American Girl doll clothes, and a dress. And that's only 1 basket! Like most other crafters I have oodles and oodles of unused fabric, yarn, trim, etc that was bought with some project in mind. Oh and did I mention the number of patterns I have! I'm such a pack rat!
Now all my room needs is a comfy chair for knitting/lounging in front of the tv :)
Walmart Wedding Rings
Well we're down to t-minus 4 months until the wedding and I'm FREAKING out! There's so much to do and instead of getting stuff done I'm avoiding it altogether. My next big steps are to get the rehearsal dinner booked (overdue), wedding bands (on time), and invitations (slightly overdue). After that I can relax for another week or two.
So FH as you might expect could care less about the invitations or picking our wedding bands. He doesn't think he needs a wedding band. Actually what he really said is if I don't take his last name, he won't wear one! I'm traditional but I'm also very attached to my last name so I said I wanted to hyphenate my name. I am still in the early stages of my career but my name is out there in the environmental blah blah field and I don't want to lose my identity. Well FH is not happy but it's not really his decision. Maybe I'll change my mind, maybe I won't.
I wanted to go look at wedding bands tonight which brought up the whole argument again. Regardless we need wedding bands for the ceremony (oh, if he's not wearing one neither am I) so I suggested we go to Walmart and buy $30 wedding bands :) Well it's 8pm and no invitations ordered and no Walmart wedding bands, but I'm sure you already knew that!
Un"wii"lievable
I've only used the Wii Fit twice and already I was able to come up with the pros and cons of the game. I was nervous about stepping on the balance board (scale really) since I heard alot people were being told they were obese. Turns out my BMI is normal :) I set my goal to lose 10 pounds in 2 months. We'll see how that goes! If you're nervous about your hubby or kids accessing your Wii Fit profile you can password protect it. I did out of principle because I don't think FH really needs to know how much I weigh :)
The game is divided into four areas: balance, yoga, aerobics, and strength training. I think the game is perfect for me. I never work out so I'm a little out of shape. The exercises are tough enough for me but if you are the gym going type who runs like 12 miles a day, leave this game on the shelf for the rest of us out of shape Americans :) The one thing and probably only thing I don't like about Fit is that there is no flow to the game. You can't select multiple exercises and set up a routine which would be even more perfect. You have to select each separate exercise you want to do which means there's a bit of lag time between each exercise. Not a major problem but still something I noticed.
Each minute of exercise you do goes into the Wii Fit bank which unlocks different games after you collect a certain amount. I haven't unlocked most of the games yet but I'm looking forward to it! So far my favorite is the hula hoop and the strength training. I can really feel the strength training working my muscles. I used to take yoga classes so that was one of the reasons I really liked Fit. I have yet to try much of the yoga though since our living room is a little tight.
