~being healthy and having a healthy family. Knock on wood it stays this way for many years to come.
~my job. My company has laid off a few people and fortunately Hubby and I have managed to keep our jobs. Other companies in the same industry have either gone under or laid off a significant portion of their staff.
~almost being done grad school. Only 4 classes to go! Yay!
~my family. I have such an amazing family that has been incredibly supportive through all the phases of my life, from high school, to college, to marriage, to grad school. The get-togethers aren't as frequent as they were when I was younger which is why the holidays are my favorite time of year. I can't wait to see everyone!
~ and finally Maggie. Yes I am thankful for a crazy, rambunctious puppy! She is a great companion to Paige and is literally a 50 pound, cuddly, lap dog. I'm glad we were able to save her from the shelter system.

I'm baaaaack!
After a short (or long to some) hiatus, I've returned. Where have I been? I'm glad you asked!! I've been right here this whole time. I finished another quarter at school, and am off until summer (boo!). This past quarter was fairly easy, except for the group project. I don't understand the point of group projects in grad school. If it isn't bad enough that I work full time, and go to school weeknights, that now I need to give up my weekends! The project came together ok at the last minute, but it was fairly aggravating.
Work has been kicking my butt too. Things are finally starting to calm down a bit though...which in this economy is making me nervous. I'd rather be jam packed with work so at least I know I'll have a job.
Now that the warmer weather is here, gardening will be at the top of my priorities along with getting in shape. Hubby has already started planting veggie seeds in a seed starter kit which the kitty cats love. We're cleaning out the flower beds to make room for the spring annuals. The daffodils have bloomed and the tulips are on their way. I planted all of the lovely tulips I was brought for Easter dinner last year and most are coming up in full force.

Halloween 2008
I carved my 2nd pumpkin this year for the office pumpkin carving contest. Carving pumpkins is really a lot easier than it looks. You just need a steady hand and a little bit of patience. Hubby did the not so fun job of scooping all the slimy insides. I found a cute spider pattern online and off to work I went. The pumpkin looked awesome and I took 2nd place in the contest on Halloween.
Hubby and I ditched out of work early on Halloween, hoping to make it to the Phillies World Series Celebration parade. The city was gridlock and mass transit was at a standstill so we watched the parade from the comfort of our own home. It was much better that way! There were 100s of 1,000s of people there (more like a million or two), plus we enjoyed a bottle of champagne. I always said the best wedding present would be the phillies winning the world series!
The rest of the day consisted of a nap and going trick or treating with my brother's girlfriend and her daughter, Micky. Paige came with us too! She was so excited. I think it was the longest walk she's ever been on. We walked through town all the way to Mom's house. Paige and Micky were too tired to walk back so Mom gave us a ride. Hubby stayed home to give out candy to the trick or treaters but no one came by. A few of our neighbor's kids came by earlier in the day but that's it. We think it's because we had no decorations up, but ALL our lights were on in the house. When my brother and I were younger, we knocked on every door with lights on. Lol, maybe that wasn't the best/safest approach looking back! I already went and bought decorations on clearance for next year so hopefully more kids will come by.

Hurricanes and Other Natural Disasters
Tropical Storm Fay is currently pounding the state of Florida which normally would not concern me but....2 of my coworkers were sent to Tampa for work this week. I actually asked if I could go!! What was I thinking? My company's Tampa office is closed today due to the storm so hopefully my coworkers don't have to work today either. Fay could potentially rain out my vacation next week! She could take 2 tracks at this point. You know how exact the science of meteorology is right? They can't predict the weather until it's already here so I'm not too worried about it.
In other disasters, not quite natural, a large apartment complex caught on fire near one of my company's local offices. The fire occurred last week about 5pm just before people were getting home from work. It was an eight alarm (huge) fire! It started on a construction site next to the apartment complex from the construction workers' acetylene torches. The fire quickly spread throughout the construction site and then jumped over to the occupied buildings. Unfortunately, one of my coworkers lived in one of the buildings and lost everything including her cat. Many of the displaced residents will have the opportunity to go back this week and see what's left. My coworker will only be able to direct the workers to her apartment later this week as her apartment is in really bad condition. A few pets have been rescued since the fire and returned to their owners. I was even teary-eyed watching the reunions on the news. At this point, only a few pets have been unaccounted for so I'm hopeful that my coworker's cat has survived this disaster.

Please don't poke me : (
Today I had my biannual work physical, which is odd because I've been with the company 3 years so technically I should have had it last year. I have an insane fear of needles so I pleaded my way out of the physical last year because I wasn't doing any field work. Well since I'm doing field work again and will probably continue to do so, I had to get my physical, including blood work (UGH!!!!).
I was really worked up before leaving in the morning, freaking out, making myself worry, crying, etc. FH didn't help either. He just randomly forgot about my fear of needles and thought it the perfect time to complain to me about his cleaning at the dentist scheduled for the same morning. A cleaning???? Really?!?!?! Come on!!! I'd rather get cavities filled than have my blood drawn!
It was scheduled for 10am, which is kinda late considering you have to fast for the blood work and I didn't get out until 12:00 or so. I definitely almost passed out during the blood work from not eating. They were really nice though and gave me coffee loaded up with sugar when I was done. Oh and my vision, hearing, breathing, and heart are OK and I can wear a respirator if I need to!

We have RING!
Yes, ring singular. FH got his wedding ring today while my search continues. I'm being very picky probably because FH got me such a fancy e-ring :) He's the best! FH's ring is titanium (very non-traditional). With the price of gold and the fact that he'll probably lose it since he's never worn jewelry before, titanium was a better choice. I told him I'd get him gold but he really likes his ring. It's very manly.

On a different note:
My job description is officially changing FINALLY! I've been transitioning out of my group for about a year and today I was informed I am no longer in the chemistry group but am now in some other (better) group. I will be celebrating tonight.
I was awesome at my old job. Now I'm worried because I'm pretty much starting over again and maybe I won't be so awesome at this. I used to have my own work and I was always busy but with starting in a different group I don't have my own work yet. I hate not having work to do....it makes me want to blog :)
